New look of memories with Google Photos collage editor
Ivan September 14, 2022
Google has released a major upgrade to its Photos app, calling it the "biggest update to Memories since the feature was introduced in 2020." Google notes that Memories is very popular, with around 3.5 billion views per month.
Memories has been updated to make it more vibrant. Emphasis has been placed on videos, and Photos now shows you examples of longer videos. Photos in Memories are now more vibrant thanks to automatic, smooth zoom-in and zoom-out. You can now also share a Memory with another Photos user. The ability to share a Memory via a web link and on iOS is in the works.
Google says you can still choose to exclude images of certain people or time periods from your memories. Another way to make your memories more dynamic is to use Cinematic Photos. With Cinematic Photos, Google Photos develops a moving 3D model of your image and renders entire movies from start to finish.
The new collage editor is a much appreciated tool. At last you can customize your collages with different grids, move photos around and even set a background, which Google calls styles and is available in a variety of patterns to start with. The update should be distributed to users gradually.
